Morocco Ameln valley

The latest from Morocco

Mar 29, 2017

This spring, we ran two consecutive tours in Morocco, starting with a cultural walking tour in southern Morocco, followed by the introductory photography tour of Essaouira and Marrakech, organised in cooperation with London based 36exp Photography School.

We think Morocco is special and our guests agreed:

Walking in Southern Morocco in the Spring

A great holiday with the right mix of walking, sightseeing and relaxing, beautifully led by Katherine and Sarah. A good variety of places visited and plenty of information, but not an overwhelming amount. Difficult to find anything to criticise.

The trip was excellent with plenty of variety. A good balance of walking and relaxation. Our leaders and guides were very knowledgeable and helpful, sensitive to our capabilities and needs, encouraging when things were a little difficult on some of the rough terrains. Our accommodation was varied and of mixed standard and the food all typical Moroccan which was interesting and overall good. The trip was special due to the interaction of the guests and our leaders. Great fun.

The walks were all wonderful but the walk through the Mentaga Valley was beautiful with a paddle across the river and the picnic on the rocks beside the river. Essaouira was very interesting and easy to walk around during free time and the hotel was so comfortable. The donkey song performed by our American friends was unforgettable and a perfect end to our trip!

Great introduction to an incredibly rich and diverse culture with varied terrain, excellent guides, friendly fellow travellers. Essaouira was a delight. I loved Marrakech. Seeing mountains, valleys, rivers/streams and beautiful coast was terrific. I did not expect such beautiful and varied topography. The variety of accommodations was fun. The sounds, sights, smells of everywhere we visited were wonderful. Very warm and welcoming Moroccans. Incredible intense colors.

Photography in Marrakech and Essaouira

We had a fabulous holiday. We saw it promoted in The Times in December 2016 and booked up. We have done other photographic holidays in The Lake District and France. The professionalism of Katharine Fedden, our Kudu guide and the knowledge and enthusiasm of Steve Franck, our photography tutor, made the holiday a wonderful experience. We had not been to Morocco before and found the people and the land wonderful.

I thought the combination of photography and Morocco was excellent. I loved learning about Morocco, its culture and people and experiencing the different aspects from the Atlantic coast through to the bustle of Marrakech. I was initially drawn to this holiday by the photographic aspects which certainly met my expectations but also to the venue - i.e. Morocco which I have long wanted to visit. The lighting and colours were perfect for photography, although the people disliked being photographed making it more challenging!
