Poland: The Hanseatic League, Teutonic Knights and Copernicus in Gdańsk, Pomerania and Warmia

Our new cultural walking tour explores great Brick Gothic churches and cathedrals in Hanseatic League ports on the sea and the Vistula river; castles built by the Teutonic Knights and iconic sites in the life of Nicholas Copernicus in northern Poland. We walk on forest trails and take boat trips on the Elblag Canal and the Baltic Sea.

Though 95% of Gdańsk was destroyed during the Second World War, the reconstruction has successfully replicated this historic Hanseatic town, famous for its waterways and amber artefacts. We also visit the Solidarity museum and view the starting point for the original uprising, featuring one of the world’s most distinctive moustaches.

We learn about Kashubia and Warmia, one an ancient culture and the latter an important regional centre during the 15th and 16th centuries. The Kashubian language and its indigenous designs feature throughout the area formerly within Prussia.

Intimate and comfortable hotels ensure that this tour meets the high standards of Kudu guests, with excellent local and international food accompanied by wines from around the world.

Trip dates: 24 August - 3 September 2020
